Radio Caroline Event 28th March 2024

At 12 noon on Thursday 28th March it will be the 60th anniversary of when Radio Caroline's official broadcasts started from the MV Caroline, anchored here off Felixstowe.
We are delighted to announce that Caroline presenter and author, Ray Clark, will be at the Museum for a couple of hours from noon on March 28th, meeting fans and signing his books (including 'Radio Caroline - The True Story of the Boat that Rocked')
Also joining us that afternoon will hopefully be Caroline's early breakfast presenter Terry Hughes, Dave Cragie with the The Moggy Van Radio Collection, and there will also be Caroline merchandise on sale.
What a way to start the season. Join us to look around the exhibition, and have a chat.

Back to the 80s

Frankie Goes to Felixstowe

What was life in Felixstowe like in the 80s? Well, Felixstowe Museum was born in the 80s, so we’re looking back at what was happening then, the fashion and music of the time, ‘new’ technology (who remembers Pacman and the Sinclair C5?), local and national events (a certain Royal wedding took place). Come and take a nostalgic trip down memory lane among our collection of everyday items gathered from wardrobes and attics of many Felixstowe people!

The Western Front WW1

The public perception of WW1 soldiers is that they stood in trenches during their tour of duty on the front line. But, in fact, after the dawn rollcall  most soldiers went underground for safety, either in bunkers or deeper in tunnels and caves. Whilst underground they wrote their names and messages on the walls.  For thirty years the speaker has been a member of the Durand Group whose prime mission is to find and neutralise massive unexploded mine charges still viable in these WW1. In doing so the group has found a wealth of graffiti never been seen since the end of the war, and sometimes are able to trace living relatives of the soldiers who wrote their names.
