Suffolk Day 2019 was celebrated at the museum when Cllr Nick Barber raised the new Suffolk flag over the museum. He was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mark Jepson, and other councillors. A musketeer fired a salute to the county.
Cllr Graham Newman, Mayor of Felixstowe, paid us the compliment of opening the museum and our Felixstowe Offshore Radio display on Sunday 21st April 2019.
We were delighted to be awarded a substantial grant from the Association of Independent Museums Sustainability Grant supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. This has allowed us to thoroughly review, develop and strengthen governance of the museum.
Last year we were honoured to receive the 2018 Best Small Visitor Attraction at the prestigious EADT/EDP Norfolk & Suffolk Tourism Awards ceremony in Bury St Edmunds. This came soon after learning that the museum had again been awarded Full Accreditation status from Arts Council England. Later in the year we received the 2018 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Over the winter months our volunteers updated and refreshed many areas of the museum. We’ve been joined by a new group of Felixstowe’s Air Cadets who have enjoyed volunteering their time in the RAF and Model rooms as well as setting a new owl trail for this year’s younger visitors. We hope that they will continue to volunteer over the summer months so they can share their expertise with our visitors.
